Evolutions are how you keep a favourite player in your team as the season moves on. FC 27 adds branching Pathways and a preview of whole Evo chains, but it also makes upgrades smaller on purpose. Here is how the system works now and how to plan a route that pays off.

What Evolutions Are in FC 27
An Evolution upgrades an item in your club when it meets the Evo’s requirements and you complete its objectives. Upgrades can add attributes, PlayStyles and more. EA treats Evolutions as one route among several, next to match rewards, SBCs and the Transfer Market, and tuned them with that balance in mind. If you’d rather skip the grind for the base items worth evolving, FC 27 coins are the shortcut.

The two additions EA built to give you more choice and better planning.
Pathways
Selected Evos branch. EA’s example: one path improves dribbling and adds Technical, the other improves defensive awareness and adds Jockey. Linear Evos still exist.
Evolution Chain Preview
Besides previewing one Evo on a player, you can now see which Evolutions could follow it, so you plan the whole route before you commit.
PlayStyles Lab
Returns as a recurring program from Season 1. Eligible items come with some PlayStyles pre-applied, and you fine-tune the rest.
Gallery link
An evolved item counts in the Gallery as the original base item it started from.
Why Evolutions Feel Smaller This Year
EA said openly that it wants items to stay useful longer, so it cut the scale of upgrades across the board.

How to Plan an Evo Route
These steps use the tools EA added, in the order that saves you the most.
Before you commit

Pick the player for the long run
Smaller upgrades mean the base item matters more. Start with someone whose attributes already suit how you play.

Open the Chain Preview
Check which Evos could follow this one. Avoid a route that dead-ends after one step.

Choose the branch for your system
On a Pathway Evo, take the option that fits the player’s role in your team, not the one with the bigger number.

Mind the PlayStyle+ cap
With three PlayStyle+ at most, add the ones that matter in FC 27, like Intercept for defenders or Incisive Pass for playmakers.

Skip Evos that only add roles
Special items already carry Role++ in their positions this year.
