Each ranked playlist has its own 10 placement matches, so placing in Doubles doesn’t rank you in Standard. Your results there and your hidden MMR decide where you start. A bad run here costs you more than anywhere else in the season.
Placements set your starting rank. Already placed and want higher? That’s a rank boost. Plenty of players do both. They place first and boost after.

You start the season as high as your MMR allows. Winning all of them won’t push you past it. It puts you at the top of that range.

It’s priced per match and starts at $3.00. The price follows your rank from last season, so ten matches for a Diamond player cost less than ten for a Grand Champion. The lobbies up there are tougher.
