Riot hasn't posted the 2026 Season 3 cutoff yet. Going by last year, the ladder locks in the first week of January and your rank resets a few hours later. Start with the calendar below. The Victorious rules and the plan for your last weeks come after.
- Season 3 started
- July 29, 2026
- Expected cutoff
- Early Jan 2027
- Victorious
- 15 wins + Honor 3
- Placements
- 5 per queue
Short answer
The season end in one screen
Expected season end
Early January 2027
Riot posts the exact time in the final patch notes of the year. Last year's cutoff was January 7 at 23:59 local server time.
Rank reset
Once a year
Only the end of Season 3 resets your rank. You drop about one tier, and nobody starts above Emerald I.
Victorious skin
15 wins + Honor 3
Solo/Duo and Flex wins count together. Your final rank picks the chroma.
Placements
5 games per queue
A loss in placements gives 0 LP, and your MMR carries over from last year.
When does the current LoL ranked season end?
2026 Season 3 runs until the yearly LoL ranked reset, which last year's calendar puts in early January 2027. Riot hasn't announced the exact date and time yet.
League runs three ranked seasons a year now, and your climb carries over between them. Per Riot's ranked years article, Season 1 starts in January and Season 2 in April. Season 3 opens in August on paper, though this year it started on July 29.
The rank reset happens once, when the new year begins. Riot announced the change in its 2025 season reveal, in its own words "one single Ranked reset next year in January, with no resets after."
The official patch schedule lists Patch 26.24 on December 9 as the last patch of 2026. That's usually where Riot posts the cutoff time. I went through the 26.19 and 26.20 notes on October 6 and there's no date yet, so this page gets updated the day Riot posts one.
| Season | Start | End |
|---|---|---|
| Season 1 | Jan 8, 2026, noon | Rolled into Season 2 |
| Season 2 | Apr 29, 2026, noon | July 28, 2026, 23:59 |
| Season 3 | Jul 29, 2026, noon | Early Jan 2027, not announced |
Times are local server time. The Season 2 dates come from the 26.9 and 26.14 patch notes. Season 3's start is in the 26.15 notes, and Season 1's in the 2025 end-of-season notice.
Last year's pattern
The final season of 2025 closed on January 7, 2026 at 23:59:59 local server time. Master and above locked 15 minutes earlier, and 2026 Season 1 opened at noon the next day. If Riot repeats that, the LoL season end date lands in the first week of January 2027 and the LoL new season starts about twelve hours later.
Does your rank reset? What happens to your LP and MMR?
Your rank resets once a year, at the end of Season 3. Going from Season 1 to 2, or from 2 to 3, never touches it.
When the new year starts you're unranked in both queues. You play placements, and Riot puts you about one full tier below where you finished. Nobody starts higher than Emerald I, per the ranked years article.
What carries over
Riot's MMR and LP page says you begin "at a lower rank than you ended it last season. Your MMR, however, remains at exactly the same spot." That gap is why January feels generous. Finish Platinum II, get placed in Gold II, and the system still sees a Platinum player. It pays you more per win and takes less per loss until the rank catches up.
One exception happened this year. With Patch 26.9, Riot hard reset the Apex tiers in six regions (NA/EUW/EUNE/BR/LAN/TR). Every Master+ player in those regions dropped to Master 0 LP, and Riot reset their MMR to match. Players below Master weren't touched.
How do Victorious rewards work?
You need 15 ranked wins in the season and Honor level 3 or higher when it ends. That's the whole LoL Victorious skin requirement. Your rank only decides the extras.
Solo/Duo and Flex wins count toward the same mission, per Riot's support article. There's no minimum rank for the skin itself. Each year has three Victorious skins, one per season. The 2026 Season 2 reward was Victorious Rengar, available from July 15. He's the art at the top of this page. Riot hasn't named the Season 3 champion yet.
The counter restarts every season
The 26.9 and 26.15 notes both say the 15-win mission resets when a season starts. Wins from Season 2 do nothing for Season 3.
Your chroma follows your final rank
Riot gives "a Victorious Skin Chroma matching your final rank." Peak in Platinum and finish in Gold? You get the Gold chroma.
Honor is checked at the end
Per the Honor guide, Honor drops while you have an active penalty. Levels 1 and 2 get no ranked rewards. One chat restriction in the final week can cost a skin you already won.
Rewards land after the rollover
End-of-season rewards arrive shortly after the next season starts. Shard transfers stay off until every reward is out.
LoL ranked rewards at the end of a season
- The Victorious skin of the season
- A Victorious chroma for your final rank
- The Victorious champion if you don't own it yet
- That champion's Eternal Series 2 capsule
- Ranked crests and loading screen borders for your current rank
- A year-end ranked emote and icon for your highest tier (the 2025 reward)
Players who earned all three seasonal skins in 2025 also got a special Victorious border, per the 2025 end-of-season notice.
How do placement matches work after the reset?
After the yearly reset you play five placement matches in each ranked queue. You can't lose LP during them.
Riot's placements page says a loss in placements gives 0 LP. Where you land depends on your results and how strong your opponents were. Your old rank weighs in too.
Solo/Duo and Flex place separately, so a good Flex run won't help your Solo/Duo start. Because MMR carries over, placements are less of a coin flip than people think. A 2/3 from a former Platinum player usually lands above a 4/1 from someone who finished in Silver. The real damage comes after placements, when inflated gains meet a bad week.
My advice is to skip reset night and play your five when you're fresh, on the champions you ended the year on. If you'd rather have them played at a higher level, our placement matches service plays those games for you.
Short on games before the season locks?
Tell us your rank and the tier you want locked in. We'll say if it fits the days left before you pay anything.
What to do before the season ends
Your final rank decides your Victorious chroma and where the reset drops you. These are the checks I'd run while there's still time.
Count your wins
Open the mission and look at the counter. At 11 of 15 in mid-December, four wins can take two sessions or two weeks. If you're short and out of evenings, a few net wins cover exactly the games you're missing.
Know your LP math
Promos are gone. Breaking 100 LP promotes you on the spot, so Gold I at 80 LP is usually one win from Platinum IV. Dropping a tier puts you at 25 to 75 LP, in steps of 25. Nothing protects you between divisions inside a tier.
Protect your Honor
Tilted? Mute all chat before champ select. A penalty in the final week is the fastest way to lose a skin you already earned with wins.
Stop on a good number
Sitting a few LP above a tier line two days out? Below Diamond there's no decay, so you can log off and let the season lock you there.
Diamond and up, watch decay
Decay only starts at Diamond. Every ranked game banks days, and once the bank is empty you lose LP each day you don't play. The holidays fall right before the cutoff, so check your bank before you travel.
| Tier | Days per game | Max bank | LP lost daily |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond | 7 days | 28 days | 50 LP |
| Master and above | 1 day | 14 days | 75 LP |
Numbers from Riot's placements, promotions and decay page.
When you can't close the gap yourself
A finals week or a losing streak at the wrong moment can eat the last month of a season. That's where LoL boosting comes in. A Grandmaster or Challenger booster plays your games and locks the tier you need before Riot locks the ladder.
Know the risk going in. Riot prohibits account sharing, and no VPN takes that risk to zero. What we control is what Riot gets to see. Your booster plays through a VPN matched to your account's region and in offline mode, so your friends never see you online. In chat, the booster stays quiet. Want the stats to look like yours? Moderate KDA and Undercover Winrate keep the numbers on a natural curve instead of a straight line of stomps.
Getting back to your rank fast after the reset
Play a steady volume in the first weeks, while your MMR sits above your rank and every win pays more than a loss costs.
Watch the numbers after each game. Gaining around +25 and losing around -15 means the system is pushing you up. Once gains and losses even out, you've hit the rank your MMR supports, and the easy part is over.
Play one role and a short pool. Two champions you know well beat five you're still learning.
Stop after two losses in a row. Cheap losses still drop your MMR, and MMR sets every gain after that.
Losing the same way every night? An hour of LoL coaching on your own replays finds the leak faster than another fifty games.
Pick who you queue with
Solo/Duo allows one partner, and a stronger duo raises your floor in every game. Know Riot's limits first. Per the tiers and queues page, Diamond players can only duo with someone within two divisions, and from Grandmaster up you queue alone. Patch 26.15 reopened duo in Master, only with players close in rank. Flex has no rank limits for Diamond and below, and it takes groups of 1, 2, 3 or 5.
No stronger friend online? A duo boost puts a Grandmaster or Challenger player in your games while you stay logged in and play every game yourself. Your login never leaves your hands. Riot still counts it as rank manipulation. The difference is that nobody else ever touches the account. It pays off most in the first weeks after the reset, when each win is still worth extra LP.
Season end questions, answered short
When does the LoL season end in 2026?+
2026 Season 3 should end in early January 2027. Riot confirms the exact time in the final patch notes of the year, and last year's cutoff was January 7 at 23:59 local server time.
When does the LoL new season start?+
If Riot repeats the 2025 pattern, 2027 Season 1 opens at noon local server time the day after the cutoff. Riot hasn't confirmed the 2027 date yet.
Will I lose my rank at the end of Season 3?+
Yes. It's the yearly ranked reset. You play five placements and usually start about one tier lower, with Emerald I as the cap.
Does my MMR reset with my rank?+

Which champion gets the Season 3 Victorious skin?+
Riot hasn't announced it yet. The 2026 Season 2 reward was Victorious Rengar.
When are end-of-season rewards delivered?+
Shortly after the next season starts. Shard transfers stay disabled until every reward is granted.
