ADC wins games by staying alive. Your goal is not to one-shot the backline—it’s to deal consistent DPS without dying first. Here’s a simple positioning framework.
1) Threat Range Awareness
Every fight has threat zones. Before the fight starts, ask:
- Which enemy can kill me in one combo?
- Which cooldowns must be used before I step forward?
If those threats are up, you hold your position.
2) The “Closest Safe Target” Rule
Most fights are won by hitting the closest safe target. Chasing the backline usually loses fights.
Rule: If the front line is in range and safe, hit it. Only swap when it’s safe to do so.
3) Spacing and Reset Timing
After every enemy cooldown, you can step forward. When cooldowns come back, reset your spacing.
This “step-forward, step-back” pattern keeps you alive longer.
4) Objective Fights
Dragon and Baron fights are about positioning around choke points. Always stand outside the main choke and kite toward your team.
5) Champion-Specific Rules
- Short range ADCs: stricter spacing, safer target selection.
- Long range ADCs: punish mispositioning, but still track threats.
6) Common ADC Positioning Mistakes
- Flashing forward without vision
- Ignoring flanks
- Using dash aggressively before threats are gone
7) A Simple Fight Checklist
- Are enemy assassins visible?
- Do I have peel nearby?
- Is my flash up?
If any answer is no, play front-to-back.
